The Marcus Brothers trap Meier's carriage on a bridge by bombing it and carjacking Charlotte. However, their trap is foiled by Machira's enhanced senses, resulting in Kyle being killed and Borgoff falling off the bridge but surviving, losing an eye. Meier and Charlotte reach the Castle of Chaythe, where Countess Carmilla Elizabeth Bathory awaits them. Meanwhile, Machira stays behind to fight D, but the vampire hunter slays him.

At the same time, Charlotte's older brother, Alan Elbourne, hires another group of vampire hunters, the notorious Marcus Brothers, composed of the leader Borgoff, a hulking man named Nolt, a blade master named Kyle, a physically disabled psychic named Grove, and a woman named Leila who hunts vampires because of a personal grudge rather than for monetary gain. The two parties (D and the Marcus brothers) race inexorably after Meier Link. However, Meier Link hires the mutant Barbarois; a group of lethal mercenary body guards. They consist of Caroline, a shape shifter; Benge, a shadow manipulator; and Machira, a werewolf.
Throughout their search, and after both characters save each other from seeming death at separate points, D has a conversation with Leila, where she reveals that she hunts vampires because a vampire killed her mother. D tells her that he hunts vampires as he has no other choice as a dhampir, and she can have a life that someone like him could never have; the life of a normal human. Leila, having not exactly taken the life of a normal human, instead being a vampire hunter, fears that no one will mourn her death when that time comes. She make a pact with D, that if either one of them survives, the survivor will bring flowers to the other's grave. D admits that he does not expect himself to survive the bounty hunt, after coming so close to death.
In the final act of the film, Meier Link transports Charlotte in his carriage to the Castle of Chaythe, where Countess Carmilla, Meier Link's matron, waits for them. Carmilla, a ghost of a vampire who died long ago, reigned supreme within the Castle of Chaythe when vampires were all-powerful and unchallenged. However, her bloodlust was so strong that D's father, an ancient, noble vampire king, killed her in disgust. Carmilla promises Meier Link and Charlotte travel to a far away city known as the City of The Night, where they can be free to love each other, which they will travel to in a large and ancient spaceship-like structure hidden beneath the Castle of Chaythe. Carmilla explains that most ancient castles had similar ships hidden within them, and that back when vampires reigned supreme, these ships weren't an uncommon means for vampires to travel to far regions. Carmilla notes that the ship is old and hasn't flown in a long time, and that she doesn't know if the ship will fly safely, but that Meier Link and Charlotte are allowed to take that risk, if they so wish.
Leila: She was kidnapped by vampires. My father went after her and was trying to rescue her, so they killed him. And after a while my mother returned, but she wasn't my mother anymore; she'd been changed. The people in the village stoned her to death while I watched. After that I left home. I met the Marcus brothers and joined with them. I wanted to be a hunter to avenge my parents' deaths. I've seen many terrible things since then: lives destroyed, families devastated, hopes crushed... everytime, it seems avampire is to blame.
Charlotte is abducted by Meier Link, a vampire, so to rescue her Elbourne, Charlotte's father hires D, At the same time, Charlotte's older brother hires another group of vampire hunters, the notorious Marcus brothers, The two parties (D and the Marcus brothers) race inexorably after Meier Link in which they learn that Charlotte chose to run away with Link, who is her lover.
Vampire hunter D is for me the strongest pick of the third season of the club, which is mainly due to the incredibly great look of the anime. The 15 years that part 1 appeared earlier you can notice clearly but you have to say for the year 2000 bloodlust almost aged timeless.
The movie is set in a distant future in which (the opening credits inform us) "vampires rule the night." However, their days are numbered as a new breed of bounty hunters hunt them down. One such vampire hunter is D (hope I didn't spoil that for you), who is half-human half-vampire, a bit like Wesley Snipes' Blade I suppose. Don't be put off by comparisons with Blade though: Vampire Hunter D is in a class of its own - its visual and storytelling elements are instead a curious blend of eclectic elements from spaghetti Westerns and Heavy Metal comic strips. (Interestingly, Blade was originally based on a Marvel comic book.)
Anime may not be "edgy", but I had a heck of good time watching Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, a whole lot more than can be said of the last movie I saw featuring "vampire hunters", namely the terrible 1998 Vampires, starring James Woods and directed by the once legendary John Carpenter . . .

With the help of a morbid and otherwise obnoxious (but very useful) parasite that lives in his left hand, D wanders to wherever he is needed in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 12,090 AD where monsters roam and humans live in fear.
Like Zeiram and other series of the mid-eighties, Vampire Hunter D focuses more on atmosphere than plot or prose, and pulls it off beautifully. It began as an extremely long-running series of light novels (thirty-two as of January 2018, some of which are several volumes long) which spawned two anime movies. The first, based directly on the first novel, was simply titled Vampire Hunter D. It involves him being hired to protect a young woman who has become the chosen prey of an "Aristocrat" (what vampires call themselves in this world), the sinister Count Magnus Lee. In the second, titled Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (based on the third novel), he is called upon to find a girl who has run off with her vampiric lover, and finds himself clashing against a group of mortal hunters. The character designs for the movies were done by Yoshitaka Amano, who also did the cover art for the light novels.
